Medical and Mental Health Services

MEDICAL SERVICES
Marly Stubbs, APRN

Wittenberg Hall houses an onsite medical clinic staffed by an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and two Registered Nurses (RN). Oversight and consultation of the Wittenberg Hall medical clinic is provided by a local Medical Doctor. Our medical clinic is equipped to provide medical screening, immunizations, physical exams, lab work, basic procedures, first aid, and referrals for on-going healthcare services. If your child is detained it is important that parents/guardians complete the detention waiver.

Detained juveniles will meet with medical staff and complete an intake screening.  During this screening juveniles will be assessed for acute medical issues, allergies, safety issues and medications.  If your child takes medication, you will be asked to bring them in.

If there are any medical concerns, please contact the medical clinic at 775-325-7851, call the control room 775-325-7810 and notify the supervisor on duty or call the assigned probation officer.

Detained juveniles must receive a mental health screening (MAYSI) during the booking portion of their intake per NRS 62C.035. The screening may trigger the need for further clinical evaluation, which is provided by a licensed practitioner. This evaluation assists staff in determining the level of safety precautions needed by an individual juvenile while in secure detention.  If your child, is detained it is important that parents/guardians complete the detention waiver.

Mental Health Services are available to juveniles that are housed at Wittenberg Hall.  All juveniles, regardless of their mental health status, are provided the opportunity to speak with a Mental Health Counselor upon request and with the permission from their parent/guardian.  The counselor is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm excluding holidays.

Parents are encouraged to contact our Mental Health Counselor, if they have mental health concerns for their child while in detention.  If a parent has immediate concerns regarding their child’s safety please contact the Wittenberg Hall control room at 775-325-7810 and notify the staff.
